The Reason for God

If you are someone who is starting to wonder about God and if there’s more to this world that what is seen - or if you are someone who is skeptical and just can’t understand why smart people would believe in a God they can’t see - I highly recommend Tim Keller’s book “The Reason for God.”

Pastor Keller wrote this book for normal people so it’s a fairly easy read. It’s not one of those books that is so deep and so academic that you go cross eyed after reading the first chapter.

In it, he does a great job of explaining the philosophical reasoning behind belief in God. After going through all of Pastor Keller’s points, it’s easy to see why there must be a God who created the world we live in. After establishing that, he goes on to argue that it is the God of the Bible that makes the most sense.

I know that there are a lot of people who are put off on the idea of believing in God based on the behavior they have seen from many Christians. If you are in that camp, unfortunately I don’t blame you. We are all sinners and a lot of us don’t do a very good job of following the example that Jesus has set for us. I know I fall embarrassingly short more often than I would like to admit.

Because of that, I strongly urge you not to judge Christ by the actions of Christians. Instead, go straight to the source (the Bible) and judge Jesus based on his own words and actions.

If you are interested in learning more about the arguments for why God must exist - and you want to judge Him on his own merits - then give “The Reason for God” a shot. It’s a great read.
